Texas Wedding by RJ Scott picks up the romance of Jack and Riley Campbell-Hayes immediately after SCOTUS makes same-sex marriage legal. The cowboy and the oilman now have four children and are building a life together on the sprawling Double D horse ranch. Friends and family surround this passionate couple while they work hard to have a positive effect on their community.
Scott’s Texas series is both surprising and entertaining, and Texas Wedding is no exception. The focus of Texas Wedding is on Jack and his efforts to help the three young men still caught up in the turmoil and pain of sexual abuse at the hands of Hank Castille (Darren’s older brother). Meanwhile, Riley determines to make a strong statement on same-sex marriage and family in Texas. You couldn’t ask for better champions than these two men. They face their world with strength, courage and fierce commitment to each other.
Liam and Marcus from Texas Christmas; Robbie and Eli from Texas Heat; Vaughn and Darren from Texas Fall all appear in this final chapter of the seven book Texas series. Still the focus is on Jack and Riley, their big, in-your-face Texas wedding, and a few troublesome issues in their growing young family. You get to know these two vibrant, young men as they forge a future for themselves, as well as Hayley, Max, Connor and Lexie, their children.
It might sound like Jack and Riley are living the life of a settled married couple, and they are, but there are still times when they need to escape from the family to “their barn” to share some sexy encounters behind closed doors. Jack and Riley come together with fiery kisses and clenching embraces filled with love and passion.
While you can read some of the Texas series as stand-alone novels, Texas Wedding wraps up many of the plot lines of the series. So, you’ll want to start with the first book to fully enjoy the series and this final book. Scott knows how to build characters; each one of them stands uniquely on stage, faults and all. The drama in Texas Wedding comes about naturally because of character interplay. Liam continues to cope with his personal history of abuse. Eli starts to think beyond his medical problems about what his life could be with Robbie at his side as a partner. Vaughan and Darren work to build a life away from the Bar Five, while other secondary characters move ahead in their lives.
Scott promises a follow series, Legacy to reveal what happens to Hank’s three abuse survivors. I hope the next series lives up to the 5 star Texas series. I’m waiting…
